Fremantle in 1982 via Micko’s Horse & Cart Tour

Former Freo mayor Peter Tagliaferri sent me the link to this extraordinary video made by John Reed in 1982
I was truly amazed to see how much Fremantle has changed over the last 30 years. The Norfolk Hotel appears it was a cobblers, Henderson St wasn’t a mall, The Woolstores were more than a shopping centre, Bathers Beach was a run-down ship yard, and the Fremantle Hotel sold Swan Lager !
It is also amazing how much stays the same. It really is worth a look.
Here are a few stills as well:
Oh wow that was fantastic! Learnt some more history that I didn’t know from watching that….
Yes lots of things the same and lots different – I loved the fountain near the Town Hall, and surprised to hear that the flagstones for St Johns came from my home town Yorkshire. Lovely story about the drinking fountain too.
I like how the Mayor said how he believed people should get out of their cars and actually walk around Fremantle as they miss all the beautiful buildings – very true. Great horse hoof effects, its a lovely sound, although not sure the horse doing its biz needed to be focused on lol.
Really great video Brad, I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for uploading it 🙂
Thanks Brad (And Peter) that was fantastic. You probably need to watch it a couple of times to catch everything. As it turned right into Cantonment Street from Queen Street I was expecting to see a large metal ball as I remember as a kid, but it must have been removed prior that. Also Bathers Beach could have headed down the wrong path of a museum and now luckily we have a wonderful beach to enjoy.
Cheers and thanks.

Great footage. Will the swans on the railway station be painted black again?

And not a shopper in sight
Loved watching that, thank you!
