On the verge of sustainable gardens

The City of Fremantle would like to invite you to a couple of sustainable gardens  events

The first  is a workshop on Tuesday 13 March 2012, 6pm – 8pm in the Council Chambers (access via stairs, opposite Myer). A light supper will be provided. At this you will be able to help develop a strategy that will encourage the Fremantle community to care for and maintain their own verges.  The workshop will be facilitated by Mary Power from Henderson, Power and Associates.

The aim of the workshop is to gather ideas that will assist with the creation of community driven verge maintenance strategy. Your involvement is key to our success.

Invited to the workshop will be representatives from:

  • Fremantle Volunteer Service
  • Volunteer Task Force
  • Elected Members
  • Department of Housing
  • FERN
  • Representatives from those Precincts with significant numbers of verges – Hilton/O’Connor, Beaconsfield, WGV, Samson, South and North Fremantle, Gibson Park and South City

Please RSVP for the workshop by Tuesday 6th March to Lee Pipe by return email:  leep@fremantle.wa.gov.au  or T: 9432-9758.

The second is on Wednesday the 28th of March at 6.30pm at the Town Hall:

  1. Pete says:

    Dear Brad,
I’d love to take care and maintain my verge.
The problem is a neighbour uses it for parking his (large) boat, van and 4WD on.
Despite the dangers of not being able to see on-coming traffic, the Council informs me it can do nothing about it!
Seems to me that the use of the verge is at the discretion of my neighbour and I don’t think he’d want the inconvenience of having to relocate his boat.

    Yours Sincerely
    Pete Ross

  2. Caryn says:

I think there needs to be a policy regarding neighbours parking on verges. If it is an owners responsibility to maintain their own verge there MUST be a policy that neighbours seek permission before parking there!
