And the award goes to…Freo

I realize talking about awards the City of Fremantle has won can be a bit dull and PR-like but the recent run of awards we’ve received over the last couple of weeks does deserve a special mention because it has been quite amazing.

Last night the City of Fremantle’s economic development strategy won the 2012 Premier’s Award category for ‘developing the economy’

Last week the City of Fremantle was also a multiple winner in coveted Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards 2012 and awarded silver medal with high commendation in ‘local government award for tourism’ category. The Fremantle Street Arts Festival was awarded silver medal in ‘festival and events’ category.

Last week the City of Fremantle’s ‘small secondary dwellings scheme’ (granny flats without grannies) took out top honours at this year’s recipient of the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) President’s Award for planning excellence in Western Australia. It also won the PIA category award for ‘Best Planning Ideas Award – Large Projects’.

In addition to this the Hilton Community Centre by Bernard Seeber Architects won the George Temple Poole Award at the Australian Institute of Architects WA Chapter 2012 Architecture Awards and 58 Stevens Street, White Gum Valley (picture below) by Officer Woods Architects won the Harold Krantz Award for Multiple Residential, the Walter Greenham Sustainable Architecture Award, and the National Multi Density Residential award.

A very impressive list of Fremantle awards from economics to planning, festivals and sustainability! Well done to all involved.
