  1. This was great and I strongly agree with what he said. I think he hit the nail on the head when he said that urban environments designed with children in mind is the way to go. These places are attractive, safe and accessible, for all people, not just children.
Children (and adults) are nurtured in communities that plan for their needs, with well-designed community centres, libraries, shops, medical facilities, parks, nature reserves, education services, skateparks, swimming pools, areas to ride bikes (mountain bikes and road bikes etc) and importantly, that these places should all be linked to public transport.
Children need positive images and experiences from their community, of nature, and of other people, in order to feel hopeful about the future – because essentially, they are our future.

    Great video.

Vancouver won the Earth Hour City Challenge and have quite an ambitious plan to be the Greenest City by 2020. I had the pleasure of meeting their councillor at the EHCC conference. She said they are relatively low income city (& housing costs are about 50% of income) but it has not been a hindrance to their plan. There is a lot of community pride there, but their local government is also very brave and forward thinking!
