Premier’s Active Citizenship Award Winners

We’ll done to the more than 50 new Aussie citizens and the winners of the Premier’s Australia Day Citizenship Awards: Fremantle Forever (Group), Nikki (Youth) and John Alberti (citizen of the year pictured below with your truly)

Fremantle Forever

Fremantle Forever was a group formed by a group of concerned community members including the Fremantle Society to oppose the proposal by the state government to force the Cities of Fremantle and Melville to amalgamate to form an enlarged City of Melville.

The group led a campaign to support smart boundary reform with Fremantle as the strategic centre. They were successful in the marketing and events they coordinated and reached a massive audience.

This campaign ultimately led the state government change its original proposed boundaries so that Fremantle would be retained as a local government area.

Well done to everyone involved in Fremantle Forever!

In the under 25s category…Ms. Nikki Wormald

Nikki has been a key member of the Fremantle PCYC Drop in Centre Youth Diversion Program, volunteering at the Fremantle PCYC for more than a year now and volunteering at the Drop in Centre for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

She has become a favourite of the services users and has become a person they trust and confide in. Nikki is always the first to suggest ways to entertain the kids like playing musical chairs or putting on a talent show, taking them to the oval to play footy or leading them into the kitchen to teach them how to cook.

Nikki is also very helpful to centre staff and helps greatly with admin work. Her volunteering work in 2013 included helping out with the Time4kids fundraising events which raised over $10,000 for the club. Nikki’s passion, commitment and willingness to help the youth of the Fremantle PCYC has been recognized here today

Well done Nikki and keep up the great work!

The final award is the Premier’s Active Citizenship Award which goes to…Mr. John Alberti

John is a former Fremantle councillor and still offers his Justice of the Peace (JP) services to the people of Fremantle. He is also an invaluable member of the Fremantle Italian community and volunteers his time to sister city relations with Capo D’Orlando. John is also key organiser of the annual Fremantle Blessing of the Fleet.

Over many years, John has demonstrated his commitment to the Fremantle community and is a worthy recipient of the 2013 Premier’s Active Citizenship Award.
