Recording of Liveable Cities Forum

Last week’s Liveable Cities Forum that I presented at Rosie O’Grady’s was to kickstart the lecture series hosted by The Fremantle Network and The Fremantle Society.

They kindly recorded the event, and it is now available in podcast format in pure audio @ https://soundcloud.com/thefremantlenetwork/mayor-brad-pettitt
and with the slides to the presentation included:

Enjoy.

  1. Dear Dr Pettitt,
We attended your talk at Rosie O’Grady’s last week and were very interested to hear about the innovative examples of affordable living you mentioned.
As the only registered community housing provider in WA that specialises in the housing co-operative model – and based in Fremantle! – we are very excited to be leading the way in this rapidly emerging solution to the housing affordability crisis, and would be extremely keen to partner with the City of Fremantle on future developments in this important area.
We’d also like to draw your attention to:
    – an interesting article about Berlin’s R50 Baugruppen model, which you mentioned in your talk: http://www.metropolismag.com/May-2015/Dont-Call-It-A-Commune
    – a recent report from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, promoting a move to “deliberative development”: http://researchbank.swinburne.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/swin:44654
    – two ABC Radio National programs discussing housing co-operatives: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/lifematters/this-rental-life-28part-429-housing-co-operatives/4095882 and http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/
    programs/lifematters/can-you-still-borrow-a-cup-of-sugar-from-your-neighbour3f/6377126
    – two articles about our own organisation: http://heraldonlinejournal.com/2015/02/20/co-op-idea-for-burt-street and http://www.mynrma.com.au/living-well-navigator/independent-living/how-i-started-a-housing-co-operative.htm
    – a submission from the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals about the role of housing co-operatives in Australia’s housing solution: http://bccm.coop/co-operatives-can-be-a-part-of-australias-housing-solution/#.Vdl4kunG7jA.
    Sincerely,
    Rebecca Hicks, CEO
