I Almost Get To Call Myself A Planner Now.

On Friday last week I was really proud to have been made an Honorary Fellow by the Planning Institute of Australia.

It was especially nice to have received this acknowledgement alongside some other very worthy recipients, namely former Planning Minister (Now Health and Arts) John Day and Senator Scott Ludlam. Kieran Wong from CODA, who had worked with Scott on #designWA, accepted the award on behalf of Scott who is still on the mend.

While there is obviously political diversity and different levels of government between John, Scott and I, all of us have been passionate about creating more compact and more liveable cities. As I said in my (unprepared speech) if I got to have a second career it probably would be as a planner.

Finally, this kind recognition is really the recognition of a team effort in Fremantle which I have been fortunate enough to been able to play a role in.  A big thanks to my fellow Fremantle Council  members, City of Fremantle planning staff and the Freo community who have gone on this journey with us.
