Kings Square Project Latest Images

Here are some updated images from the Kings Square Project that include the lastest Sirona designs and Kerry Hill Civic Building images. There will be some more tweaking before they are completely finalized but you can get a good sense of the development that will kick off early next year from these.

This isn’t ‘Freo’ at all. Do no like it. ugly and modern. make it so it matches all the heritage listed buildings at least…

    • I think doing mock-heritage so it “matches all the heritage listed buildings” both lessens the heritage value of the West End etc and means we miss out on creating beautiful new contemporary buildings.

What if architects and property owners took the same approach 100 years ago when the buildings you know and love were being built? They were modern at the time as well.

    • There’s barely any character left in Fremantle due to greedy and overzealous developers, under the guise of ‘progress’. This building design is appalling and will become an eyesore in time to come, just like many of the other monstrous constructions built in the 60’s and onwards. Absolutely shameful.

We will just have to disagree on this one. I think the revamped old Myer building looks far better and the Kerry Hill civic center won and international design competition and is undoubtedly exceptional.
I’d be interested for you to give an example of a building built in Australian in last few decades that is of the standard you’d approve?
        cheers, Brad

Exactly right brad. Beautiful looking buildings

Is there a chance we can see some actual models to understand what the new square will look like? It’s hard to gauge this from pictures.

” beautiful new contemporary buildings”? These already look dated… There’s nothing “new” here…. Or anything that will stand the test of time….. But then, those that remember the “old” fremantle are either leaving, or dying off, so I don’t suppose it matters that the “new” designs fit right in with the future of Fremantle as a gentile university campus…

I can answer that question Brad… Sydneys & Fremantle’s own Maritime Museums are just two fine examples of architecture that is sensitive to the purpose & environment in which it sits…

      • I agree they are stunning buildings. I would also add the new City of Perth library to this list.
I was meaning however buildings that housed people be it for housing or office. Any thoughts on that?
