30 years ago today… Freo’s America’s Cup Began

Today, January 31, is a significant day in Fremantle’s history.

30 years ago today, as WA Today writes: “High summer came to Fremantle and, after four years of incredible effort, the 26th challenge for the America’s Cup finally began on Saturday, January 31, 1987. Kevin Parry’s gold-hulled Kookaburra III took on Dennis Conner’s pastel blue Stars and Stripes in a best-of-seven shootout on the turquoise chop of the Indian Ocean.”
