Fremantle and NAIDOC Week. It’s been a full week

As you know it has been NAIDOC all week this week with lots on in Fremantle.

In Fremantle it kicked off with a lovely NAIDOC Week opening at the Hilton PCYC that was full of families.

Hilton’s  fabulous community garden’s Buds n Blooms also had a great event with Greg Nannup from Indigenous Tours WA who gave an introduction of the local history and tribal area; telling us a dreamtime/creation story as well as a taste tour of the Hilton Harvest Bush Tucker Garden.

Tomorrow (Friday) Notre Dame Fremantle will host a special event in Fremantle.

Notre Dame also this week posted the powerful research some of their master students did into the Fremantle and Australia Day debate. This impressive presentation is well worth a look if you want to dig a bit deeper into the issue.

Friday night is:

Well known Fremantle Aboriginal Elder Len Collard was also guest on “Who are you?” this week to talk about his life and important contribution to Noongar language. Again well worth a listen—len-collard/8681068

Finally next week (Thursday July 13th)  Marissa Verma from Bindi Bindi Dreaming and Oxfam Shop Fremantle is running a special NAIDOC Week evnet where you can learn about Noongar Boodjar and why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages matter and enjoy a delicious range of Australian bush foods.
