How does an ocean pool in Freo sound?
Fremantle local and building designer, Sam Martin proposed the ocean pool to Fremantle Council who enthusiastically supported the concept and endorsed the investigation into its viability and assistance in making it a reality as part of the planning of Bathers Beach.
We now need your support to show the state government that the people of Fremantle and Western Australia want an ocean pool so we can take this from being a concept to a reality.

I love it! How do I sign the petition?
Step 1: Download and print off the petition (PDF).
Step 2: Sign the petition and circulate among your friends and family for their signatures. If you run out of space for signatures you can always print off another copy.
Step 3. Return the completed petition(s) to the Office of Mayor Brad Pettitt, PO Box 807, Fremantle WA 6959 OR drop it off at the customer service centre (8 William Street, Fremantle).

Wouldn’t port beach be a better spot? You already have a heap of swimmers down there every morning. If you did it in between salt and the Leighton apartments with all new cafes you would have a glorious coastal strip. Then add the green bridge and you have fun places all the way from freo to the mantle to salt to port to Leighton to Cott.

the exact location hasn’t been determined exactly but we are leaning toward Bathers Beach as it already has groin built on it and is close the the Freo centre

I think this is a wonderful idea, but to be honest I don’t like the proposed design. At ground level you wouldn’t be able to see the pools, only all those buildings which I would like to know what they are for. When I’ve been to Sydney I’ve gone for walks along the coast with a friend who lives in Manly. They have a few ocean pools which are open to view and it’s lovely to see the people swimming as you walk along.
I often go for walks all the way to the lighthouse and I’m sure I wouldn’t like that row of buildings blocking my view.
Can’t the ocean pools be of a simpler, more visible design?

the concept of an ocean pool is a worthy one, however the design should consider street activation.
Why do you need an ocean pool at bathers beach? It is already so sheltered. This is a complete waste of rates.
I think it would be a huge attraction for the area and wouldn’t be built with ratepayer money alone. It would require state government support too.
Can you sign the petition online?
No as we want to give it to parliament and they only take hard copies
